In addition to being a technophile and friend of Tesla (he’s pictured here in Tesla’s lab), Mark Twain wrote with unequaled (if understated) eloquence about issues like empire, trade, industrialization, and of course race and human rights. It’s a stretch to call him a steampunk – but it’s certainly not to say he merits that attention of anyone interested in the connections between the 19th century and today.
